About

My practice is based around small to medium scale kinetic sculptures integrated with technology. Often this is of an interactive nature where I like the audience to be involved in my exhibits. In which case I increasingly find the viewer to be a key factor in how my work evolves.

The creative process I use consists of continuous experimentation and research due to my engineering background. Over time my work has developed beyond a purely visual level to a more sensory one. This encompasses the use of movement along with light and sound for instance. This I find helps enhance the spectacle or experience of the event itself. In order to do this I employ technical methods coupled with simple electronics in my projects. The technology used is often in the form of worn out appliances, broken gadgets or items from the breakers yard. Any salvaged materials for example consist of plastic, old timber or scrap metal. Here I repurpose this unwanted junk by making interesting compositions which comment on today’s throwaway culture.

Recently I have become more interested in the relational aspect between people, machines and society in general. This is especially true with the internet and social media.
